Cosmetic Dental Veneers in Cardiff

Dental veneers are THE option for that bespoke or perfect smile, gentle on the teeth and life-changing for all who have them fitted.

So what are your options?

You may already know that dental veneers are thin coverings of specifically made dental materials that are placed over the front surface of the teeth in order to improve their appearance. Completely transformative.

Depending on your preferences you may either decide to have porcelain veneers (Emax) or composite veneers. If you choose porcelain then you will need to consider which laboratory you want to use. This often comes down to how much money you want to spend and what your final expectations are. Don’t worry, we’ll talk you through all options.

What you need to know about Teeth Veneers

Dental veneers are a cosmetic dental procedure that involves placing a thin layer of material, usually porcelain or composite resin, over the front surface of your teeth to improve their appearance. They are a highly-customisable, natural-looking solution for various issues like discoloured, chipped, misaligned, or unevenly spaced teeth. The improvement that comes from fitting veneers can be dramatic, enhancing a smile and the aesthetics of teeth both quickly and with huge aesthetic impact.

Veneers are incredibly durable but last between 5-8 years for Composite and around 15 years for porcelain. After this point, they may need replacing. It is important to note that in some situations fitting of veneers involves the smoothing of a small amount of tooth enamel, meaning veneers will need to be worn for life.

Sometimes and often with composite veneers enamel smoothing is not needed. In these situations the procedure can technically be reversible. The procedure to fit veneers is generally safe, though typically patients might suffer some temporary sensitivity in the teeth. Like many other dental treatments, this usually subsides in a matter of days.

Veneers should be treated like your other teeth and cared for in the same way, brushing twice a day, as well as flossing, and scheduling routing check-ups and visits to the hygienist for polishing. Though porcelain veneers are generally stain-resistant, composite resin can be less so. We’ll advise on this, and any other questions or concerns you might have during your consultation.

Bamboo Veneers - Cosmetic Dentistry Wales
Who is suitable for Veneers?
Veneers are for people who are looking to change the shape, length, or size of their teeth.

They are placed on top of your existing teeth, like a strong false fingernail.

Our cosmetic veneers (Emax porcelain and composite) are best suited to people who already have straight teeth. This means that only a minimum amount of preparation is needed.
How long do Veneers last?
Emax veneers are made of high quality porcelain and are ultra-thin. If well taken care of, they can last upwards of 15 years.

Composite veneers are made of composite resin material. If they are well taken care of and well maintained, they can last between 3-5 years.
How many Veneers can you have?
You can have as many as you want; but we do a minimum of two veneers.

Most of our patients will go for 8 or 10 veneers per arch. These are usually the teeth that you show when you smile.

Sometimes you can have four or six too, but we would rarely do the full mouth as the back teeth often don’t need veneers.
Do the teeth get prepped?
If you’re thinking Turkey teeth then no, that’s not what we do.

Thanks to the developments in the materials of our veneers, the porcelain is incredibly robust and thin. This means that we only need a minimal amount of preparation.

We ensure that you and your teeth are healthy before placing the veneers.
How much maintenance is there?
In general, composite veneers require more maintenance than porcelain Emax veneers.

With composite veneers, we advise our patients that they not only need to maintain good dental hygiene but also need a yearly check-up and scale and polish with your own hygienist.

You also need to be careful with what you eat and drink with composite veneers to avoid staining or chipping them.

Porcelain veneers are relatively straightforward to look after. Good oral hygiene is a must – flossing, using mouthwash, and brushing (in that order). Unlike composite veneers, porcelain Emax veneers don’t stop you from eating anything, except from hard boiled sweets, candy canes and sticks of rock.
How much do Veneers cost in Wales?

We fit dental veneers from £380 per tooth at Bamboo Cosmetic Dentistry, as well as offering affordable payment plans to spread the cost. We generally recommend applying veneers to two teeth as a minimum.

Are Veneers worth the money?

Dental veneers can instantly transform a smile, radically changing the aesthetics of teeth. While costs can vary depending on the material used for the veneers, the life-changing impact of a great, confident smile can be priceless. Whether you’re looking for minor corrections, or a whole-mouth overhaul, consider how much you’d value a great white smile.

Is there a downside to Veneers?

The fitting of veneers involves some contouring to the tooth enamel meaning that once fitted, they need to be worn for life. This is especially true of porcelain veneers. The benefits far outweigh the downsides from the range of dental issues they can address, the huge improvement in self-confidence we see from so many of our patients, and so much more that a great smile adds to your life.

What sort of Dental Veneers can I choose from at Bamboo Dentistry?

We can offer you E-Max veneers which can be fitted as either in the traditional way or as ‘same day’ First Fit veneers, removing the need to wear temporary veneers whilst the final ones are made. Emax is high quality and ultra-thin porcelain, perfect for veneers. We also offer composite veneers, which are less expensive and often require less tooth contouring. To find out more, visit our veneers page or call us to chat to one of our team.

Do you have natural looking Veneers?

Yes, our Emax veneers are hand painted by the lab so the options are endless. You will be shown a range of shades from which you can choose from – from natural to whiter than white.

Types of issues that Dental Veneers can address

Veneers are highly versatile meaning they can help to address a lot of common dental issues, including:

– Discoloration: veneers can cover stains, and help in cases where whitening is ineffective
– Eroded teeth: whether diet, teeth clenching (bruxism), or just age, veneers can reverse the signs.
– Chipped or broken teeth: veneers can cover minor chips, or full breaks in teeth
– Irregular shaped teeth: where teeth are slightly misaligned or uneven, have dents or cracks, veneers can smooth this out
– Teeth gaps: veneers can fill these spaces, creating a uniform look
– Poor structure: veneers can cover naturally small, or significantly damaged teeth

If you have just one of these issues, or need multiple cosmetic veneers to really spruce up your smile, our expert veneer dentists would love to discuss your options.

Alternatives to Dental Veneers

Depending on the specific nature of your dental issues, veneers may not be suitable for you. As part of our initial consultation, we’ll determine your needs and recommend the best course of action for you, but also consider:

– Composite Bonding: This is less invasive than veneers, and can usually be completed in as little as one hour
– Straightening: If your main issue is poor alignment, orthodontics may be more suitable, without the need to irreversibly contour the tooth enamel.
– Whitening: If discolouration is the only issue, whitening may prove more suitable, affordable and straightforward

Other options may include dental crowns and implants but these can be more invasive and destructive to the teeth. Our friendly dental team will be able to advise you on the best course of action.

Different types of Dental Veneer options available

Generally made from porcelain or different types of resin, veneers are custom made to fit over your teeth. If you’re unsure about which would be best for your needs, our team would love to outline the options based upon your teeth and your goals, but generally:

Porcelain
These are preferred due to durability and their closeness to actual tooth material. Porcelain is stain-resistant, and offers a realistic, tooth-like appearance. You will have the choice between Emax veneers and First Fit veneers.

Composite Resin
This material can be applied directly to the tooth and completed quickly. Composite is however, less durable, and more prone to staining than porcelain, which is reflected in the difference in cost.

We’ll work with you to determine the best type, shape, colour, and size, for your veneer treatment to get you the smile you’ve always wanted.

What the process of getting dental veneers looks like

Getting veneers is a process which happens over the course of a couple of visits to your dentist, and might take several weeks. We’ll always start with an:

Initial Consultation
Here we’ll discuss your expectations and goals for your smile. We’ll examine your teeth, taking x-rays, and a 3D scan of your mouth to build a picture of your current teeth. We’ll explain the process, and you can ask questions and fully understand the next steps, or alternatives if it turns out veneers aren’t right for you.

Temporary Veneers
If dental veneers are right for you, we’ll discuss your expectations for your new smile. Then we will ask the dental technicians to design a new smile and try this new smile on your teeth in a temporary material. This is sometimes done before we contour/prepare the teeth and sometimes done at the same time. Often you will be able to wear your new temporary smile for a few days or for a couple of weeks whilst the new smile is being made. The temporary smile can be changed or altered until you are happy.

Veneer preparation
After a smile design is agreed it’s time for your veneer preparation appointment. Note that if you are having composite veneers, this appointment will be the fitting appointment because as soon as the new design is agreed you are good to go for placement of your composite veneers.
If you are having porcelain veneers, then the minimal enamel smoothing is done here. The teeth are then scanned and this scan is sent to the dental laboratory for fabrication of the dental veneers. Your temporary veneers will be placed before you leave and you will be given instructions on how to look after them.

Bonding
Once we have your veneers back from the lab, it’s time for fitting. We’ll check the fit and the colour, as well as clean and polish your teeth. The veneer is then applied to your tooth with special cosmetic dental ‘glue’ which will bond it to your tooth quickly. Time to check out your new smile!

Follow up and aftercare
Within a few weeks of your treatment, we’ll want to check everything is OK with your new veneers and possibly make adjustments if needed.

Caring for dental veneers

Once fitted, veneers blend into the background and become an integral part of your simile. They should be cared for to prolong their lifespan, and enable the best possible oral health. Our dentists will give you advice following fitting, including:

Maintaining excellent oral hygiene
Brushing and flossing your veneers should be part of your daily routine, like the rest of your teeth. We recommend maintaining a good schedule of dental checkups which can ensure that your veneers are in good condition, and you may want our hygienist to polish them once a year.

Avoiding biting hard items
Veneers can crack or chip if mistreated. Refrain from opening items with your teeth, or biting non-food items. Certain hard foods like hard candies, ice cubes, etc. should also be avoided where possible.

Avoiding staining foods and drinks
Veneers are generally stain-resistant, but regular exposure to black coffee or tea, red wine, or tobacco could potentially discolor your veneers (particularly the edges) over the period of a few years.

Protection from damage or extreme temperatures
If you’re into extreme sports, or even just a game of football at the weekend, it’s always advisable to wear a sports gum shield and this is particularly the case after having invested time and money in your new smile.

That said, veneers are generally low maintenance and have good longevity once fitted, hence being such a popular treatment here at Bamboo!
