Often our patients want to know exactly what the process of having Enlighten looks like. It’s a straightforward procedure that is often completed quickly and leaves you with a transformed smile. Generally we’ll go through the following steps:
Initial consultation
After chatting and getting to know you a little, we’ll examine the condition of your teeth to gauge your suitability for Enlighten. If you have cavities or issues with the gums, we will need to address these first. We might clean your teeth to remove any plaque or build-up so to increase the effectiveness of your whitening. We’ll also take a snapshot of your teeth’s current shade, as well as some before photos, so you can see the difference once your treatment is complete.
3D Dental scan
Next, we’ll take impressions of your teeth to create the trays which will hold the whitening gel. These are customized to you and the shape of your mouth and teeth for a perfect fit. We may give you an activator gel to use on your teeth before you begin the whitening phase of the treatment. This primes the teeth for whitening.
Whitening gel application
Once the trays are ready, we’ll make sure they’re a perfect fit so you don’t have any discomfort. We may bond small composite attachments onto the four molar teeth at the back of your mouth so to help lock in the whitening tray. This helps achieve best possible results. At this point, you can take your trays/gels home.
Home Application
We’ll give you instructions on how to apply your gel using the trays. The active ingredient in the mould passes through the dental enamel, breaking down stains by chemical oxidation. You’ll then wear the whitening trays overnight for three weeks gradually building up the strength of the gel and then visit your cosmetic dentist or one of our hygienists for the final assessment of tooth colour. We then suggest that you keep your smile looking bright by using special toothpaste or serum which we give you.
Monitoring Progress
We’ll recommend you see us regularly to monitor the progress of your whitening and ensure everything is as expected. We might make adjustments if needed, depending on how regular check-ups with the dentist may be scheduled to monitor the progress of teeth whitening and ensure everything is proceeding as expected. If you’ve been experiencing sensitivity, we might prescribe you some gels to reduce this.
Final Assessment
Once your teeth have hit the desired shade of white, we can compare them against your pre-treatment photos and shade. Time to smile when you see your new teeth!

For all treatments over £350 at Bamboo we have 0% APR interest monthly plans up to 18 months available for you for treatments over £500. Up to 12 months interest free with no deposit. The 18 months interest free option is available with a 15% deposit. If you wish to have the 24-month option with no deposit, the monthly repayments would be at 5.9% APR or 7.9% APR. How long your Enlighten whitening will last depends on your personal circumstances, diet, and condition of your teeth, but with the right care, can be expected to last up to three years.
Typically, you can expect to see some results from your Enlighten whitening in as little as three days, with most cases finishing in 3 weeks. In more complex cases, this can be up to eight weeks, but we’ll let you know during your initial consultation what to expect.
We recommend wearing your Enlighten trays overnight when sleeping for maximum effectiveness. This depends on your individual circumstances, but we’ll let you know what to expect at your consultation.
One of the main reasons our patients love Enlighten is that it’s suitable for sensitive teeth, so often can be less painful than other whitening treatments which can sometimes cause minor irritation.
The results of Enlighten whitening can last up to three years for those who take good care of their teeth. Whether you decide to have a ‘top up’ after this time is entirely a personal decision, but we can work with you to reach your desired goals. Top up gel is relatively inexpensive and can be bought at the practice.
One of the great things that our patients love about Enlighten whitening is that it doesn’t require any change to your diet, so yes you can drink coffee! We recommend using a straw to avoid staining, but unlike other whitening treatments, there are no restrictions as to what you can eat or drink with Enlighten. Note that drinking coffee will impact the effectiveness of your whitening, as it is a harsh liquid that causes staining.
No teeth whitening treatments are permanent. With proper aftercare, the results of teeth whitening from Enlighten can last up to three years before touch-up treatments may be desired.
Enlighten is a treatment which is so routine and effective, it’s guaranteed to give a Vita B1 (extremely light) shade in up to 98% of patients. This is enabled by working straight through the enamel, for high effectiveness. The gels gradually build up in strength to ultimately be the strongest we can legally give you.
