Bamboo Composite Bonding

Composite Bonding In Cardiff

Everything you need to know about Composite Bonding

Composite bonding is an increasingly popular dental procedure that can enhance the appearance of your teeth. It involves applying a tooth-colored composite resin to one or more of your teeth to repair damage like cracks, gaps and chips. It’s called bonding because the material bonds to the tooth. The procedure really gained popularity in 2017-2018 thanks to increased affordability, speed and accessibility.

Benefits of composite bonding

Speed: Many composite bonding procedures are completed in one visit, instantly transforming smiles

Less invasive: especially compared to veneers, less of the tooth is lost when applying composite bonding

Cost effective: Depending on the extent of work, it can prove more cost effective than other procedures

Aesthetic control: materials and colours can be closely matched to existing teeth, allowing full control

However, composite resin is not as strong as other materials like porcelain, and may chip or wear over extended period. It is also more stain-prone than porcelain.

Composite bonding is a safe procedure and one that’s become increasingly popular thanks o affordability and speed of the transformation it can have on a smile.

It’s often used for minor corrections, whereas straightening and veneers might be required for more dramatic change.

Composite Bonding

Subtle in appearance but transforming for you and your smile. Change the shape of your natural teeth without any smoothing.

Bamboo Composite Bonding - Cosmetic Dentistry Wales
Who is suitable for Composite Bonding?

Composite bonding is a minimally invasive treatment that is used to fix any small chips or cracks in the teeth.

It can also be used to smooth over small areas any aesthetic displeasure of individual teeth.

To fully change the shape or length of your smile, composite veneers may be more suitable.

How long does Composite Bonding last?

This is a tricky one as it will depend on several factors outside of our control based on your lifestyle.

The way your teeth bite together, the foods and drinks you consume, and how well they are taken care of will determine how long the treatment will last.

Composite bonding is prone to chipping and staining; therefore, taking good care of them is a must.

Can Composite Bonding close gaps?

Composite bonding can be used to close gaps that are present in your smile, and is sometimes the best option.

Most of the time though if the gaps are large then the best option is a combination of teeth straightening plus composite bonding.

How much maintenance is needed?

Top of the class oral hygiene is a must to ensure your composite bonding stays in tip top condition.

Composite bonding can stain easily depending on the types of foods and drinks you have, so keeping on top of your cleaning is essential.

We would recommend basic daily hygiene such as flossing, using mouthwash, and brushing every day.

On top of that, a yearly check-up and scale and polish with your own hygienist can help maintain your teeth and the composite bonding.

How much does Composite Bonding cost per tooth UK?

Because composite bonding can vary wildly in complexity, prices vary. At Bamboo Cosmetic Dentistry, we charge £600 per hour.

Is Composite Bonding worth the money?

The importance of a good smile cannot be overstated, and composite bonding is a fast and cost-effective way to improve teeth which are chipped, broken, worn or damaged. Compared to more costly treatments, the results can be life-changing – relatively inexpensively!

How many years does Composite Bonding last?

Composite bonding treatment is highly durable if cared for once fitted. Expect your treatment to last five to ten years, if cared for properly (and depending on a number of other factors like age, lifestyle ,diet, etc.)

Is Bonding cheaper than Veneers?

Composite bonding is a popular procedure given it is relatively inexpensive compared to a treatment like porcelain veneers. Depending on the complexity of the work you need, it’s often more cost-effective than veneers.

Am I too old for Composite Bonding?

Composite bonding is suitable for most patients who have good basic oral hygiene. For cases where cavities or gum disease is an issue, these should be rectified first, but generally, composite bonding is suitable for all ages.

Composite Bonding compared to other treatment types

Composite bonding is often compared to veneers, but unlike veneers which are custom-made and require multiple dentist visits, composite bonding can be a much quicker and straightforward process.

It’s less costly, and less invasive, hence its popularity, but for more extensive issues veneers are often a better option.

Bonding resin is similar to the material used in fillings, but whereas fillings are used for cavities, bonding tends to be more widely used for fixing cosmetic and aesthetic issues. Some of these issues are listed below.

Bonding may be used in place of straightening or other orthodontic treatments if the alignment is less severe, or more cosmetic.

Types of issues that Teeth Bonding can solve

Composite bonding is a highly bespoke procedure which is tailored to your goals. Some of the most common reasons our patients come to us for dental bonding in Cardiff are:

– Closing gaps between teeth
– Repairing chips and cracks
– Filling cavities caused by tooth decay
– Fixing discolouration
– Changing the overall aesthetic shape of teeth
– Making teeth look longer where they’ve become worn down/damaged

How Composite Bonding treatment works

Our patients love composite bonding as it can completed in one appointment, sending you home with your new smile in as little as sixty minutes! Here’s what you can expect on the day:

Consultation
We’ll examine your teeth and determine if composite bonding is right for you. You can tell us about your goals and expectations for your teeth. If bonding is right for you, we’ll match the colour of our resin to your natural teeth. You may want us to whiten your teeth first.

Teeth prep
Anesthesia is often not needed unless there is decay. Composite bonding is otherwise completely painless. To help the bonding grip firmly, we’ll roughen the tooth surface, using a pumice paste followed by a powder and then you’re ready to receive your treatment.

Application
We’ll then apply a resin, matched to your natural colour, and skilfully mould it into the desired shape. We’ll then use a blue light to harden the resin. This process can take just thirty minutes. If you’re having multiple teeth or more complex work done, of course it may take longer. If you have very specific wishes as to how you want your teeth to look after, we may deem it necessary to involve a smile design by our dental laboratory technicians. This means an extra visit or two beforehand. This will be discussed at consultation.

Final touches
We’ll then trim and shape the resin so it’s a perfect fit and matches your desired expectations. We’ll polish the tooth, and then show you your new smile!

Follow up and aftercare
We may ask you to return in a few weeks to check on the state of the bond and tweak if needed. The procedure is very safe and discomfort during the procedure is uncommon. Aftercare, however is of key importance and we ask patients to be ‘top of the class’ in terms of their dental hygiene after undergoing teeth bonding of any type. You will be advised to see our hygienist annually for polishing of the composite.
