Composite Veneers in Cardiff
Growing in popularity year on year, this super easy, super flexible way to transform your smile is really taking off across Wales and the rest of the UK. Without the need to wear temporary veneers composite veneers can change things up in the blink of an eye.
What are Composite Veneers?
Together with your dentist, you will choose a free hand approach or an injection moulded approach, a shade will be chosen… you can keep things natural OR you can go and dazzle with the celebs. Up to you.
The style also comes down to whether you want to keep it real or shout a big ‘Hello, I’ve had my teeth done’, and everywhere in between. Total flexibility.
Composite veneers are a great way to cover single or multiple discoloured/irregular shaped teeth – anywhere from 4 to 10 veneers on the upper teeth works really well because these are the ones you see the most when you talk or smile.
They do need slightly more looking after when compared to Emax veneers, pop in for an air polish with the hygienist once a year and watch out for boiled sweets. But so long as your doing what you need to do for them they will last you 5 years +, with only minor touch ups needed from time to time.
They are super useful in cases where the teeth need to be made a touch bigger, or when someone wants a fantastic smile makeover but with less financial commitment than Emax veneers.
The composite resin, just like with composite bonding can be adjusted easily anytime afterwards and it can be removed when it comes to replacement after a few years without damaging the teeth underneath.

If you’re thinking Turkey teeth then no, that’s not what we do.
If you are suitable for composite veneers, then by definition and in almost every case, there will be NO tooth preparation/smoothing.
When it comes to porcelain veneers, thanks to the developments in the materials of our veneers, the porcelain is incredibly robust and thin. This means that we only need a minimal amount of preparation.
We ensure that you and your teeth are healthy before placing the veneers.
We fit Composite Veneers at £380 per tooth and Emax Veneers at £625 per tooth. All our dental veneers can be paid for monthly. We have a number of interest free options as well as longer terms with very reasonable rates. We generally recommend applying veneers to two to four teeth as a minimum, to get best results.
The fitting of dental veneers can include some irreversible tooth preparation. This is usually the case with porcelain veneers, however the preparation is always minimal and within the outer surface of the teeth so to maintain their health and strength.
In almost all circumstances if you are a good candidate for composite veneers then there will be NO tooth smoothing. Remember that dental veneers is an irreversible treatment. This is especially true of porcelain veneers. Composite veneers can in most circumstances be reversible, meaning that if for some reason you wanted them removed then this can be possible.

Who is suitable for having Composite Veneers fitted?
We’ll assess your suitability for Composite veneers during your initial consultation, but they aren’t suitable for everyone, depending on your oral health and the severity of any issues with your teeth. Some of the things we’ll be looking for include:
Amount of previous dental work to the teeth: Sometimes a tooth or teeth you feel need veneering already have crowns on them. If this is the case then the composite veneers will have to be placed on the teeth around this particular tooth, while the tooth in question is either left with the old porcelain veneer/crown or a new porcelain veneer/crown is made.
Poor overall oral health
Getting veneers fitted can involve changes to your mouth which require your teeth and gums to be in stable condition. If your basic oral health isn’t up to scratch, or you have other issues, you might need to address these before having veneers fitted. This usually involves seeing our dental hygienist for a scale and polish.
Teeth grinding or clenching
If you suffer from this, composite veneers may still be suitable but we may need to alter the way in which your teeth come together at the same time as placing your composite veneers. Teeth-clenching can place significant stress and pressure on your teeth so we need to make sure the stresses are reduced so the veneers last a long time.
Bad habits
Such as nail biting or pen chewing can mean that there’s a chance your veneers will be damaged over time. We usually find that once someone has had veneers placed they feel a significant need to look after them by altering any bad habits.
Each case is individual so we’ll consult with you after assessing your teeth and mouth to determine your suitability for composite veneers. But don’t worry, we’ll get you to where you need to be so you can get the smile you have always wanted.

How do Composite Veneers work?
Book a free consultation so that our cosmetic dentists can talk you through the process. We will make sure that you first understand all there is to know about wearing a new smile with composite veneers. If you decide to go ahead with treatment, we’ll take x-rays, photographs and a 3D digital scan of your teeth and gums. We will also show you a before and after photo of you with your face in it smiling. This is a really cool way to see the benefit before you commit.
We will also talk to you about the different options when it comes to tooth shape and shade. After this we carry out any teeth whitening depending on what you prefer, before then sitting down to complete the bonding of the veneers freehand. You may have chatted to your cosmetic dentist about using one of our affiliated smile design laboratories to make a gum shield which is used to place the veneers…this is the injection mould technique and is useful if you have a really specific request of what the tooth shapes are going to be. Doing things this way can be a little more precise.
The composite veneers are then polished to get that super fresh look, and you will pop back around a week later for a review and further polish if needed. You may need new retainers, or gumshield to wear to bed but this will all be decided upfront.
Most of the time there’s no anaesthetic needed and also no tooth preparation. Super simple and super quick.
Caring for your smile once your Composite Veneers have been fitted
Once you’ve had your composite veneers fitted, you’ll want to keep checking out your new smile and enjoy it for as long as possible! At the end of your treatment, there are a few things you can do to keep your veneers in tip-top condition:
– Maintaining good oral hygiene is key to this – In the morning, mouthwash with a stain removing mouthwash like UltraDex or CB12, and brush with a regular fluoride containing toothpaste for 2 minutes. No need to use a whitening toothpaste. Use a good electric toothbrush like the Phillips Sonicare Diamond-Clean series, or Oral B iO series.
In the evening, mouthwash as above, but before you brush floss your mouth to remove the debris that sits tightly between your teeth.
– Composite is strong but not quite as strong as Emax so it’s best you avoid biting into anything that’s not food, and best avoid super hard things like boiled sweets and candy canes. You can consume turmeric and drink tea/coffee/red wine but remember to be good at the cleaning as discussed above.
– Smoking is never good for you or your oral health and should be avoided.
– Wearing a nightguard if advised by us or your dentist. This is important after composite veneers.
– not using teeth to open packages, bottles etc will ensure a good bond, and protect your composite from damage.
– Keeping up regular dental checkups, and letting your dentist know of any problems will help address any issues early on.
Visiting a hygienist annually is recommended, for healthy gums and to air polish any stains away.
Alternatives to Composite Veneers
Composite veneers are a popular procedure for their flexibility, value for money and natural appearance, but they’re not suitable for everyone. If composite veneers isn’t right for you, consider straightening then whitening finished by edge bonding, or simply go for Emax veneers for that ultimate makeover. Emax generally needs less looking after and will last over twice as long as composite veneers, but does come with a larger financial commitment.
Whichever treatment you choose depends on several factors including your personal goals and oral health. We’ll work with you to get the results you need.
