What is Invisalign?
Invisalign straightening is a type of orthodontic treatment that uses clear, removable aligners to gradually move your teeth into their correct positions.
It’s a popular alternative to traditional braces thanks to the discreet looks it offers, and is commonly used to treat conditions such as overbites, underbites, crossbites, gap teeth, open bite, and overcrowded teeth.
The cost of Invisalign depends on how long your expected treatment plan is, and how many arches you need (i.e. which set of teeth). Invisalign Express (our three month option) is available from Bamboo Cosmetic Dentistry from £1595, and payments can be spread across our payment plans making treatment more affordable and convenient.

Yes! Though there is a small potential that your teeth may want to shift back to a previous position after your treatment, Invisalign is generally designed to be a permanent, transformative procedure. Follow your dentist’s guidelines during and after your treatment for the best possible results.
Invisalign is generally meant to be worn for most of the day (up to 22 hours), so in short, yes, you should sleep wearing your Invisalign. Think of it as having your teeth straightened, while you sleep!
Depending on the severity of any misalignment, and your personal goals, Invisalign can be faster than traditional braces — often by up to six months or more. Our average treatment length for Invisalign depends on several factors including the level of complexity and misalignment, but we’ll walk you through the process during your consultation and set realistic timelines.
How does Invisalign work?
After you’ve visited us for a consultation, and together we have decided that Invisalign is a good option for you, we’ll perform a 3D digital scan of your teeth and gums. We can use this to produce what’s known as a clincheck. A clincheck is a digital representation of your teeth as they are before treatment and at every weekly stage of treatment right the way through to the end result. Just like magic you will be able to see what your teeth will look like before committing. Once you are happy with it, we can proceed with your treatment.
We’ll then send the scan of your teeth to our Invisalign technicians who make the clear aligners. Each aligner will be worn for one week or until your teeth have moved into the position of the aligner. When this happens, it’s time for a new one so we will fit a new aligner and repeat the process until your teeth are perfectly straight. Often we will give you a bunch of aligners to be getting on with at home so you only need to see us approximately every 6 weeks.
You’ll wear the aligners for around 22 hours a day and throughout the treatment, we’ll do our very best to make sure that you’re as comfortable as possible while you get used to wearing them.
Your cosmetic dentist may have mentioned the need to place temporary composite attachments on some of your teeth. The attachments help the aligners grip the teeth and make the tooth movements more efficient, speeding up the process. Very rarely is a tooth removed to make space for cosmetic teeth straightening, instead cosmetic dentists tend to make space by removing tiny amounts of ‘dead’ tooth enamel at strategic points in your mouth. This is typically done on your Invisalign fit appointment and is painless, if a little strange feeling.

Comfort
Because Six Month Smiles involves a brace stuck onto your teeth, it can take a little longer to get used to. Invisalign takes around 2 weeks to get used to and the Six Month Smiles takes a month. The Six Month Smiles brace will rub your lips more than Invisalign in the early days after fitting, and you may need to use the dental wax we give you to provide comfort. All brace systems will cause some tenderness to the teeth once they begin to move, and there is no real difference here between the two types.
Flexibility
Invisalign is removable, and we suggest this when eating or drinking to avoid any complications. Traditional braces such as those used in Six Month Smiles for example, are typically fixed and cannot be removed until the treatment is completed. Apart from avoiding hard foods like thick crusty bread and foods that stain like turmeric you can eat whatever you want with the Six Month Smiles brace. Depending on who you ask, the flexibility of having a brace you can remove will either be a good thing or a bad thing.
Duration of treatment
Six Month Smiles is often a quicker procedure than Invisalign, but the biggest difference is the predictability of the finish point. Six Month Smiles more often than not finishes when your cosmetic dentist predicted on initial consultation. Invisalign can in half of cases go on past the initial treatment time, with the need for additional aligners (often without extra cost). If time is a priority, Six Month Smiles may be more suitable.

How much does an Invisalign treatment cost in Cardiff?
Our Invisalign treatment starts from £1595, which includes fixed and removable retainers. You’ll also get a free take-home teeth whitening treatment and some smoothing of the edges to level, if required- to give you that new smile sparkle. You may have discussed in advance with your cosmetic dentist the need for post alignment composite bonding to really finish the smile off. This is priced at £500/hour.
All treatments over £350 at Bamboo Dental can be paid for with 0% interest and you can pay the monthly payment over 6, 10, 12 or 18 months – you choose. But please note that for 0% interest over 18 months we do require a 15% deposit. No deposit is required with the other options.
