Initial consultation
We’ll discuss your options with you and assess your overall oral health including the condition of your teeth, gums, and mouth. If there are any significant issues, we’ll need to address these first. If you’re a good candidate for take home whitening, we’ll then:
Take a 3D digital scan of your teeth and make your trays
Our dentists will take a scan of your teeth. We’ll use this to create your trays, which are custom-fitted to your mouth, and will hold the whitening gel when you’re at home. It’s important that these are a perfect fit to minimise any irritation.
Give instructions for your whitening
We will give you both verbal and written instructions on how to use the trays. We are here to answer any questions so that you can whiten at home.
You whiten at home
You’ll whiten at home with your trays and gel for the prescribed amount of time, usually 2 hours a day for 2 weeks. You can buy more whitening gels if we feel your teeth can still get lighter.
Check in with us
Depending on how bright you want your smile, we’ll touch base occasionally to ensure everything is going smoothly and there are no problems.

Avoid staining foods and drinks
After whitening, steer clear of foods and drinks with strong colours like turmeric, red wine, tea, and coffee for at least two hours. This helps protect your teeth and maintain a bright smile. It’s pretty common sense that the more of these foods you consume the sooner you may want to top up the whiteness.
Avoid smoking
Smoking is generally negative for your oral and wider health and should be avoided. It causes staining of teeth – among other long-term health issues.
Maintaining excellent oral hygiene
Make sure to brush your teeth twice a day, floss every day, and schedule regular dentist visits. If you have ongoing sensitivity, stick to good oral care habits like brushing, flossing, and visiting your dentist regularly. Their advice will help keep your smile healthy and comfortable. Your dentist’s guidance will help you keep your smile in top shape. Catching potential issues early will prolong both your teeth and your whitening.
Rinse after eating
Particularly when eating staining foods as above, but it’s generally good practice to rinse teeth after eating.

Don’t be fooled by cheap take home kits, or whitening you can buy online. Although take home teeth whitening kits can be safe and effective when prescribed by a trained dentist, and used as directed, there are lots of options out there which can be harmful.
Always consult with your dentist when using take home kits. The safest option is always to use a kit from a dental professional. Your dentist should asses your oral health and determine your suitability for whitening and only then can you be given the most effective and relevant treatment, based on your individual circumstances.
